Karen and Sara Brown are two New Yorkers who embody everything we love about this city. They’re smart, cool, funny, friendly, kind, generous, and warm. They also happen to be identical twin sisters who share more than the same DNA. They both have an incredible eye for style and design. This unique talent of capturing inspiring images of beauty can best be seen on their tastefully curated blog Identical Eye. However, it also serves them well in their day jobs at Ralph Lauren: Karen is a senior designer at Home and Sara is a vintage buyer for the company.

Their infectious warmth and personality is immediately evident upon meeting them. Within minutes of spending time with them, you immediately want to become the third sister. We spent an afternoon with them recently in Brooklyn and can’t wait to meet up with them again.

We simply adore them and we think you will too!
What is your favorite virtue?
Karen: Empathy. I think the world would be a better place if people were more empathetic toward one another. If we all took a second to care for one another, and be a little more compassionate, we would see we are all really not so different, with the same day to day ups and downs.  Getting out of our own heads, trying to understand someone else... being less egotistical and more understanding.

Sara: Kindness. I think everyone would be happier if we treated each other better. Living in such close quarters in New York City, it is easy to become a bit closed off and often times “tough” towards one another. A simple smile or kind gesture towards a complete stranger goes such a long way.

What are your favorite qualities in a man?
Karen: A good sense of humor is everything to me. I'm a hopeless romantic and love a compassionate, honest, loyal man. And confidence.

Sara: Definitely sense of humor, which outweighs most. Compassion comes next.

What are your favorite qualities in a woman?
Karen: I strive to be a woman who is ambitious, assertive and confident, while staying humble, kind, and selfless. There is nothing chicer to me than a strong, successful, yet warm and down to earth woman.

Sara: Women who are supportive of one another. It’s unfortunate to see women consumed by jealousy and competitiveness. It’s inspiring to see women who can put these tendencies aside and support each other to be successful together.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Karen: First and foremost health and happiness for those that I love, Sara and I having families of our own.  Fresh flowers, an ongoing soundtrack of my favorite songs, and amazing food every day. Doing something I love every day, growing old with my friends and family. All hopefully in a house by the beach.

Sara: Living on the beach surrounded by my family and friends.

What is your greatest fear?
Both: Living without family.

Which living person do you most admire?
Karen: I admire our mom. She is the strongest, most loving, selfless person I know.

Sara: And our dad, who wound up with two twin girls, and has been the most loving dad since. He is our biggest “fan”!

What is your greatest extravagance?
Karen: My perfume is my biggest splurge. I especially love Byredo scents.

Sara: Travel.

What is your most treasured possession?
Karen: Old family photos, especially of family members I've never met.

Sara: A gold and turquoise locket from the late 1800’s that was our grandmother’s. We found it after she passed. When we opened it, we found 2 cut-out photos of us that she had put inside.

Who are your heroes in real life?
Both: My parents.

What is your greatest regret?
Karen: Not asking my grandparents enough questions about their lives.

Sara: Not traveling more after college before diving head first into corporate work.

What natural talent do you wish you had?
Karen: Stevie Nicks' voice.

Sara: I wish I could dance!

What's the favorite gift you've ever received?
Both: Our parents' parenting. We are mainly who we are because of them. They taught us to be kind, humble, hard-working women.

If you could invite three people to dinner, dead or alive, who would they be?
Karen: Beyonce, Coco Chanel, and Flora Cohen my grandmother I never met whom I'm named after.

Sara: Larry David, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Karen. If Karen is included, can I add my boyfriend, Mordechai?

What is your favorite motto or quote?
Sara: There is a passage that is read during the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashana that I have always liked…

‘origin is from dust and destiny back to dust...is likened to a broken shard, withering grass, a fading flower, a passing shade, a dissipating cloud, a blowing wind, flying dust, and a fleeting dream’

Tell us about the cause or charity that is closest to your heart?
Both: Almost two years ago, one of our best friends from childhood took her own life. Her family and friends have started a non profit organization, The Stephanie Becker Fund, to raise awareness about mental health, while removing the stigma surrounding suicide. Mental illness effects so many peoples' lives, it's time we start talking about it.

What's your favorite way to wear cashmere?
Karen: All cashmere everything.

Sara: With nothing underneath.
